Some years ago I participated in my first (and only) sacred drumming session. We didn't walk around a fire. In fact it was all indoors and we didn't walk at all. I don't recall how many drums there were or how many drumming on them - maybe 6 or so. What I do remember was the leader would not let us quit. If the arm got tired time to change to the other - over and over into some kind of physical near-exhaustion, until quite unexpectedly I went into a state of euphoria, joy, bliss or whatever one wishes to call it. At that point the session was over. Some questions are what is this euphoric experience? What was its cause? Was the ego body-mind so worn out with physical effort and pure boredom that it "quit" its constant chatter and influence? Stilling of the mind to me means quieting the ego body-mind allowing the Cosmic Mind to assert itself which it will if allowed. When we heed the ego body-mind we are in essence "having gods before God"; i.e., our own miscreation. Yes, there are countless ways to still the ego body-mind. I always recommend using the method that works.... |
